Honolulu EMS is seeking aspiring Emergency Medical Technicians and 911 Dispatchers

HONOLULU — Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is accepting applications for EMT Academy 9, offering an opportunity for qualified applicants to begin a rewarding career serving the residents and visitors of O’ahu.

The application period opens Sunday, August 30, 2026, and closes Saturday, September 5, 2026, or when 500 applications have been received, whichever comes first.

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:
● A high school diploma;
● A General Education Development (GED) certificate; or
● Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, which may be substituted for the education requirement.

Applicants must also possess a Type 3 driver’s license by the time of their interview.

The starting salary for an EMT I is $66,144 annually, or $31.80 per hour. EMTs provide basic lifesaving care, including administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), providing wound care, and transporting patients to the hospital under the supervision of a paramedic.

EMT Academy 9 is scheduled to begin July 1, 2027, with graduation anticipated at the end of 2027.

Applicants who meet certain criteria but are not selected for the EMT Academy may be offered an alternative pathway to a career as a 911 Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD).
